Misconceptions
About Yoga
Misconception #1) You have to be flexible and in shape to
start yoga. Wrong! You start from where you are. Everybody is
different and has innate strengths and weaknesses. Thinking you are
too inflexible to start yoga is like thinking that your car is too
dirty to go to the car wash. Yoga will make you flexible, in mind
and body.
Misconception #2) Yoga is easy. Yoga is not easy. It is
challenging on many levels -- physically, emotionally and mentally.
It helps us get in touch with our selves in all our different
facets. There are many forms of yoga that are aerobic and physically
demanding and other types which are more restorative in nature.
Misconception #3) Yoga is About Accomplishing Pretzel
Poses Goal-oriented yoga isn't yoga at all. Yoga is a
process-oriented activity in which what you experience is much more
important than what you achieve.
Misconception #4) Yoga is a bunch of weird, guru-oriented
stuff. Send us all your money and we'll give you a photo to hang
over your bed.
Misconception #5) Yoga is boring ! There is nothing more
interesting that watching the workings of your own mind. As an
adult, we may stop learning. A mind which knows all the answers is a
dead mind. Awakening the "beginner's mind" through the
practice of yoga and meditation, we learn about ourselves and our
perceptions that create our world.
