Misconceptions About Yoga

Misconception #1) You have to be flexible and in shape to start yoga. Wrong! You start from where you are. Everybody is different and has innate strengths and weaknesses. Thinking you are too inflexible to start yoga is like thinking that your car is too dirty to go to the car wash. Yoga will make you flexible, in mind and body.

Misconception #2) Yoga is easy. Yoga is not easy. It is challenging on many levels -- physically, emotionally and mentally. It helps us get in touch with our selves in all our different facets. There are many forms of yoga that are aerobic and physically demanding and other types which are more restorative in nature.

Misconception #3) Yoga is About Accomplishing Pretzel Poses Goal-oriented yoga isn't yoga at all. Yoga is a process-oriented activity in which what you experience is much more important than what you achieve.

Misconception #4) Yoga is a bunch of weird, guru-oriented stuff. Send us all your money and we'll give you a photo to hang over your bed.

Misconception #5) Yoga is boring ! There is nothing more interesting that watching the workings of your own mind. As an adult, we may stop learning. A mind which knows all the answers is a dead mind. Awakening the "beginner's mind" through the practice of yoga and meditation, we learn about ourselves and our perceptions that create our world.
